Being "LIKED" in the Workplace.
Older Woman: "Come here, I have to tell you something..."
Me: "What is?"
Older Woman: "You know, he is not liked. Nobody likes him." (referring to one of the bosses)
Me: "Mmmm..."
Older Woman: "Yeah, like 5 people told me that!"
Me: "Mmmm.."
Older Woman: "You don't know right? because nobody tells you, but I am telling you because I like you.. and you need to be wary..."
Is being "liked" in the workplace important?
I am not really into "people should like me" thing. In the workplace, as long as I do my work and do my work well, then that is fine. How I deal with people, though, also matters - nope, it matters a lot!
I know I won't be able to please all, and for sure the one (boss) being mentioned, knows that too!
He is simply doing his work, and he is doing his work well. He may not be liked because he wants things done and some people doesn't like that.
Some doesn't want to be bossed around because they thought they are their own bosses too; some wouldn't want to follow his lead, because they thought they know better. Some are just lazy too, and if they get reprimanded, they would make things personal.
Well, I guess, it doesn't really matter what world you live in, 1st world or 3rd world, people are just the same.
We may ALL need to review our Work Ethics again.

ReplyDeleteAt some point being liked is a big thing, however, there are times that it will eventually become a nightmare..:)
ReplyDeleteIt does matter but it's not absolute. Sometimes it's functional and sometimes, it's envy but you just have to do your job, pleasing people will just follow.

ReplyDeletework relationship as important as accomplishing work. it's the work environment you see everyday and that includes the people around work.
ReplyDeleteI guess what matters is that you are respected and if they do not like you for yourself, they can't say anything about how you work. That's just me.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it is important to be liked but it shouldn't be our driving motivation to work or serve other people. For as long as you have done your job well, at wala kang sinasagasaang tao, ok na rin. Positive or negative may massabi talaga ang mga tao. It is difficult to please everybody!

ReplyDeletepeople will not tell you point blank that they don't like you, you'll just learn or hear it from somebody else ,chismis ba. I myself knows that my boss don't like me when i was still working in Qatar, but I don;t care coz the feeling is mutual ,lol.we both know that we don't like each other,
ReplyDeleteThere are people who are well-liked but not well-respected and vice versa. Leaders (e.g. bosses) can't afford to be liked at all times. Sometimes they have to make hard decisions that will benefit the company and the majority of the employees, but will hurt some too.
ReplyDeleteGenerally, I'd like to work on my task as I would be more accomplished and compensated if I get things done first. :)
ReplyDeleteme too, i'm more of a result oriented type kaya deadma if others don't like me...they'll realize it later din...
ReplyDeleteAt work we always do things as a group so it's really quite difficult if you don't get along with each other. We should learn to cooperate and leave personal issues outside of work.

ReplyDeleteof course we would love to be liked because it's like an assurance that we are doing good or something positive, but sometimes, it doesn't matter because people in the workplace are probably not the most important ones in ones life.
it's hard to please everyone, so I think one should just do his/her job.

ReplyDeleteif being "liked" is because you favor other people despite not doing a job, then that's a definite NO-NO. but there's what you call office politics, and sometimes you have to play it to get things done

ReplyDeleteYou know what's a sure way to get liked in the office? Start your own and get people you can really work with. That's my dream and betcha I'm gonna fulfill it one way or the other.

I think some people have the attitude "I am here to work, not to make friends" but then again you will work with those people for a long time and it wouldn't hurt to be liked, otherwise you will always be picked on. I guess some people just don't care or are really unlikeable.
